Is Leadership Hopeless (2)?

If it were, how did we get here? We live in advanced societies that provide longer life spans and better lives because of the success earlier generations created regardless of the fact they weren’t perfect, nor are the outcomes they created. Lack of perfection doesn’t mean we should give up. Rather it means we need to continue to learn to achieve better.

We’re beginning to realize our world’s resources are finite, that we need to be more efficient and effective in how we use them and more creative than ever to carry vastly greater numbers of people into the future with as great lifestyles as we now know are possible.

All our human creativity and ingenuity will be required to manage the future. We won’t have the luxury of squandering limited resources as we have. We won’t be able to afford the wasteful wars, salting the earth with land mines and other unexploded munitions, leaving garbage across not only battlefields, but everywhere without finding uses for discarded products and food waste.

The message is we have to learn to cooperate and work together on these challenges to a far greater extent and in far greater numbers than ever before – and we need to do it urgently now, before it’s too late. Leadership is not only possible, it’s essential for survival. We can’t afford to let anyone think otherwise. And we need a global purpose toward which leadership in every industry and sector is pointed. A grand purpose. We won’t achieve it tomorrow, but we won’t ever if we don’t start.
